I had never heard of them before either. But I saw them in the store and had to try them. The season in the Pacific NW is fairly short. I thought they tasted a lot like Chantarelles, though the texture is a little bit different :)
I am pretty sure they grow in the East as well, but they have a different season. For us they are a "late" mushroom and show up around Feb & March, but I think they are a August - November mushroom on the East coast.
I love mushrooms but have never heard of hedgehog mushrooms.

ReplyDeleteI thought maybe the grew where you live and not in the east where I live.
